My friend Jackie posted this on her Facebook Page so I thought I would research it and then write out.

If you drink too much on New Years Eve, keep AAA's Tipsy Tow phone number handy because they will get both you and your vehicle home for free.  Free towing from 6pm Saturday, December 31, 2011 to 6am Sunday, January 1, 2012 when you call 1-800-AAA-Help (222-4357).  Southern New England AAA is not participating in Tipsy Tow.  The best part is that you do not have to be a AAA member.

AAA Tipsy Tow also operates on Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo and Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July, Labor Day weekend, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

Our New Keurig

So yesterday, we were kicking back relaxing and heard a ring at the door.  I opened the door and found our new Keurig brewing system sitting there.  I said out loud - our Keurig arrived, let's set it up now.  In a matter of minutes, we swapped out the old with the new.

Not too long after that, we was drinking our first cup of coffee from it.  The first cup tasted watery, so this morning I adjusted the creamer and it tastes just like it used to. 

 
I'm feeling good after my morning cup of coffee today.  I am so glad that things are back to normal in our coffee world.

Endless Coffee

So this morning I woke up looking forward to my morning cup of coffee like I do every morning.  I grab my cup, add two sugars, a little bit of cream and an ice cube (I know I get upset when I burn my tongue).  I go over to the coffee maker and grab my k-cup, put it in our Keurig and press the button.  Surprise a perfect cup of coffee right?  Wrong, it is an endless cup of coffee and when I say endless, I mean the water will not stop brewing and if that was not enough, the machine turns off in the middle of my brewing after I have already switched over to the second cup to try to save my first cup.  Grrr, so what do I do?  I pour our some of the water from my first cup and mix the sugar and creamer in so that I can at least enjoy one cup of coffee today because I really need it.  So, after that I sit down and start reading my emails.

Soon after my husband comes out for his coffee and I tell him what happened to me and I told him I hope the same thing does not happen to you and I continue to read my emails.  He tries several times to fix the darn thing trying to get working to no avail and you know how frustrating it can be when the coffee maker does not work when you want it to, I know I do anyway.  It is only then that I look up Keurig Customer Support online and proceed to call them for assistance or direction.  I tell the customer support lady what is happening with our machine.  She apologizes for the problems we are having with our machine and gets more information from me.  I was very calm because I was enjoying the last cup of coffee from our Keurig.  To my delight, she informs me that she will send us a one time replacement in the mail within 3-7 business days free of charge.  Yay and I am super happy when she tells me that they do not offer the Costco Keurig on their website so she will upgrade me to the Keurig Platinum Brewing System that has a few more different features and still all for free.  The only thing I need to do is send the black piece that the k-cup sits in to them withing 30 days from today.  The new system comes with a one year warranty that we will register online just as we did this one but will not have the k-cup sampler which is just fine with me.

So now 3-7 days without coffee is going to be really rough because it's the only coffee maker we have now since I got rid of my other one.  I guess our Monster will have to get us through these next critical days.  It will be another great day to be thankful for when we receive our new brewing system in the mail.

Making Our Own Laundry Detergent Night

Lately, I noticed that I have been purchasing so much laundry detergent that it is getting ridiculous.  Laundry detergent prices are ridiculous even with a coupon and the pace at which we use it up is driving me crazy.

So this week, I picked up some Arm & Hammer Washing Soda to start making our own laundry detergent again like we always used to do in Maryland.  Our kids decided that they wanted in on the action of making three batches of powdered laundry detergent tonight.  Tyler was in charge of measuring out the one cup of Borax under my supervision, Lane was responsible for measuring out the one cup of Super Washing Soda and I was in charge of measuring out the two and a half cups of Irish Spring shredded bar soap (you can use any scent bar soap that you prefer). 

We still had some of the ingredients from when we lived in Maryland, so I used the Super Washing Soda I purchased at Walmart this week along with the other ingredients I already had and whipped up three recipes which should last us for awhile.  To shred the bar soap, I used the shredder attachment for my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer.  We store our powdered laundry detergent in plastic containers with screw on tops.

Some people may say that we spend more time making up the batches then it is worth.  To that I say our family has always enjoyed doing things together and taking a few minutes to make laundry detergent together is no different.  The first year we made our own laundry detergent we only spent about $50 that year on all the supplies.  We will have to see if the prices still ring true here in California where everything seems to be expensive.

Monster Team Gear and Coupon Policy

We have been a Monster Energy Drink loving family for years now and we are always on the look out for the best deals out there.  I was recently introduced to Monster Rehab by my good friend Diana and it tastes just like you are drinking iced tea (the good kind) and am really loving it!  My husband first loved the green one, then he moved on to the blue one and now he enjoys the purple one.  The purple one was recently on sale at a local supermarket but I could not find it anywhere else.  Since then, my good friend Diana told me that the Costco in Irvine has the 24 pack for about $30.00.  Only problem is that Irvine is about a hour and twenty minutes away.  Last time I was there I picked up some.  I guess we'll have to ask Diana if she can pick some up for us whenever she comes down and just pay her back since our Costco here does not carry the purple one.  Occasionally, Costco has a manufacturer coupon for $6 off per case.  I try to wait for those times to stock up but those promotions are so few and far between.

Recycling For Money

We pay a CRV on most of our bottled items when we purchase them in store so we also recycle them to get our five cents back for every CRV beverage container.  We recycle our own aluminum cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles to get our CRV monies back.

We recycle our CRV beverage containers, glass bottles, aluminum cans and plastic containers at One Earth Recycling at the 5980 Fairmont Ave. Ste. 106, San Diego, CA  92120 location.  If you like them on Facebook you get an additional two cents per pound.

The lids can be on the plastic bottles and if it is under 2 pounds or so, they count the plastic bottles individually.  Be careful because there are some plastic bottles that you cannot recycle for money.

Last time my friend Shanna and I took our recycling down, I redeemed $29.00 and she redeemed something like $26.00 worth of recyclables.  That is $29.00 back in my pocket and $26.00 back in hers.

Recycling is not only helping our environment but we are also putting money back in our pockets so it is a win win situation.

My New Adventure

Starting my own business is a fun, exciting opportunity to share Scentsy with others who may already love the products or to share what Scentsy is all about with those who have never heard of it or want to find out more about it.

Food Truck Heaven in San Diego, CA

Tonight we found out there would be a cluster of food trucks on Murphy Canyon Road in San Diego, California not too far from our house.  We checked them out for dinner tonight.  There were six food trucks in all Two For The Road, Tabe, Sweet Treats, Asian Persuasion, Super Q and another one that I cannot remember the name of that sold Perogi's.  We checked it out basically to try the Cap'n Crunch Crab Cakes from Two For The Road but we tried out much more.

While waiting for Two For The Road to open up, we had the pleasure of meeting the owners Roberto and Lisa.  It is great to know that all of their food is made fresh.

Bucca di Beppo Restaurant Review

We went to this location (705 6th Ave in San Diego, CA 92101) in July 2011 because it is where my son wanted to try.  We felt lucky getting a metered parking stall along the side of the restaurant.  When we arrived there was no line and was seated in less then 5 minutes.  We were shown to our table and given menus and the lunch specials.  Our waitress came by a few minutes later and asked if we know of their specials which we did.  She asked us what we wanted to drink and we told her and it was brought back within 5 minutes.  She dropped off our drinks and left because we were still deciding what to eat.  She didn't come back to our table for nearly 10+ minutes and that was frustrating.  After we placed our order with her, she never came back to refill any of our drinks or check on us or anything throughout the entire meal.  Her manager was very pleasant and refilled our drinks with a smile.  At the end of the meal after we had waited forever for her to come back, we had to flag her down to even get our check and only then did she ask if we needed a box and she could get us any dessert.  It was like she completely forgot about our table and that kind of stuff irritates me to no end because their tip is all about their service that they render to their tables.  The food was delicious but the service made our experience less then enjoyable.  I will not go back to this location.

Island Style Cafe in San Diego, CA

Island Style Cafe is the closest Hawaii local food eatery near us.  We found it while we were on the search for local foods when we first arrived in California from Maryland where we made all the local foods at home.

We tried it one evening for dinner and the food is just like home.  We didn't really get the crepe thing but I guess it must be their specialty or something.  We have had the chicken katsu, kaloco moco, barbeque chicken, fried rice, etc.. with mac salad and rice of course and everything has been ono.  We have gone back a few times since and have enjoyed their food every time.

The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, there is one bathroom in the back off the kitchen, there is ample parking, they have a tv up on the back wall, it is kid friendly and the prices are affordable.

I was referred by a friend to this company (thank you Melody!).  Walk-in's are welcome.  I was assisted as soon as I walked in their door.  The staff is friendly, the salon was quiet, clean and nice.  There is plenty of parking.  Waxing services were completed to my satisfaction.  They are still having a Grand Opening special of 20% off your bill so now is a great time to check them out.  They are definitely getting my repeat business plus referrals to friends.
